I will show you a walking course that I recommend for the guests of Konjaku-So Tsuruhashi to feel the history of the area.
For those of the same age as the writer, born in the 1990s, Tsuruhashi tends to remind them of Korean Town, but in fact, this area is a town with a rich history. I have selected some spots with historical background, so please take a stroll when you stay at Konjaku-So Tsuruhashi. 🙂
Contents
To "Tsuru no hashi ato" Koen
Exit Konjakuso to the left, and turn right at this crossroad.
Keep walking straight to find Tsuruhashi Hondori Shopping Street.
You can feel the atmosphere of Tsuruhashi in the rows of small stores. 🙂
Continue straight through the shopping street.
When I am traveling, I sometimes enjoy the narrow paths, with only smallest stores and houses like this☺ When I have time to spare, I take a deep breath in places like this and feel the aroma of incense sticks from someone's house for example. 😛
After passing through a narrow path, you will come to a wider street to find 7-Eleven on your left.
Walk into the road behind the 7-Eleven.
Then, you will see the modest ruin of the bridge called "Tsuru no hashi ato.
This bridge used to span the Hirano River and seems to be the oldest bridge in Japan that has been recorded (reference in Japanese).
To Miyukimori Tenjingu Shrine
Let's now head to Miyukimori Tenjingu Shrine.
With the "Tsurunohashi" ruin on your left, continue down the narrow path.
Turn left at the corner here.
Continue along the path for a while.
Then you will see Miyukimori Tenjingu Shrine on your right.
These photos show how it looks like inside the Mikomori Tenjingu Shrine. You can find more information on the page of OSAKA HERITAGE NABIGATION - "Miyukimori Tenjingu Haiden".
To Korean Town
Go out from the Torii gate on the same side.
Turn right at this view.
Walk along the path to arrive at the entrance of Korean Town.
This is the famous Korean Town in Tsuruhashi 🙂
I went there for my school field trip. I remember that the teacher delivered a little money to spend there, and I ate tteokbokki with my group members, and bought Korean seaweed as souvenirs for my familiy. 😋
To Miyuki Bridge (Ikuno Ward, Osaka)
Keep going along the path to come to the Miyuki Bridge.
It's good and refreshing to walk and see around the river sometimes.
I would like to come back when the sky is clear and beautiful again.
I was satisfied with my walk, having made some stops at stores in Korean Town, so I would like to leave the walk here and return to Konjaku-So. Did you like the course? I hope this article has been helpful in your stroll through the history of Tsuruhashi.
